This is my 11th hand-generated “System of the Day” using the Traveller5 rules. My goal is to publish one random system per day in 2020.

Meng-Po is a fairly unimportant agricultural world. It orbits a gas giant in the primary star’s habitable zone, and is tidally locked to that gas giant. The world’s wide habitable zone is mainly used for extensive farming activities, dotted by small farming communities and several larger cities.
Meng-Po’s small starport is located at the cold rim of the world’s habitable zone, and actually projects into that zone. Care should be used by visitors to ensure adequate precautions are taken, to minimize exposure risks to the cold environment. This location can also make cargo loading activities “rather interesting” on occasion. An adequate rail system is in place for transportation services, especially for shipment of farm produce to the starport. This rail system does not reach everywhere, however, and travel to the far side of the world (which has some of the lowest population concentrations, and better farmland) can take weeks.
Meng-Po’s hot zone is relatively unexplored and surveyed, owing to high radiation levels from the gas giant. It’s cold zone has been more extensively surveyed, and has several mostly untouched deposits of various common metals (copper, iron, etc).
The rest of the system is uninteresting, and mostly unexplored. A trio of stars, three gas giants, and a single iceball planet. With Meng-Po itself orbiting a gas giant, there is little need (nor desire) to visit the outer system for fuel. The nearest moon to Meng-Po’s gas giant could be a good farming world, but radiation levels are high, and the world itself is subject to massive tidal forces from the gas giant. Volcanic activity, and earthquakes, are a frequent occurrence.
