Goutis has 97% of its surface covered by oceans, and is by far the most interesting destination in this otherwise uneventful system.
Ocean technology is prominent with most watery worlds, and Goutis is no exception; its small industries are known for their specialization and expertise in most aspects of oceanic technology. Indeed, while the world’s technology base hovers at TL 9, its robotics and oceanic tech areas are rated at TL B. Goutis Oceanic Industries, a loose industrial combine, is known throughout the region for its excellent underwater-capable smallcraft and submersibles, as well as its remote and underwater robotic control systems, which are highly prized by research teams.
Goutis’ populace enjoys a highly varied seafood diet. Its oceanic farming techniques are known for their efficiency as well as their variety. Its mineral extraction technologies harvest a wide array of minerals and organics from the world’s oceans.
Goutis has few resorts; most land is utilized for living space or farming (small ocean residences are the norm). There is however one resort which is well known throughout the region for its excellent scuba diving, snorkelling, and submarine tours, but especially for its surfing. A yearly surfing contest draws in hundreds of the area’s best surfers, and tens of thousands of spectators. The popularity of this event creates several different headaches for organizers. Hotel space is at a premium: most hotels charge triple – or higher – their normal rates. And law enforcement has their hands full. It is common for the police to hire (“deputize”) people to help with crowd control and traffic.
