Jalanth is a very important, highly productive world in the region. Settled “late” in a recent human Diaspora (meaning it was settled only within the last 1000 years or so; accounts vary), Jalantha has grown into an industrial powerhouse.
The world’s industries are reknowned for the efficiency, experience, and high education levels of its workforce. Its small craft and non-starships, in particular, are valued for their relative low cost and high reliability, as are its industrial machinery and commercial mining equipment.
New Jalanth, orbiting the system’s very distant companion star, was settled several centuries ago as a farming colony. It has since grown into a productive world in its own right, and it continues to (slowly) improve its technological base. All three of the system’s planetoid belts are being efficiently surveyed and mined, supporting Jalanth’s industries. The belt orbiting the distant companion star (a weak brown dwarf) has only recently been targeted by developers. All three belts look to be productive for the foreseeable future.
Jalanth itself is considering expanding its starport and shipyards. While some few regional analysts speculate the world’s leadership is contemplating expansion via military means, the reality is quite different: they seek to expand their place in local markets. There is always a market for quality starships; if Jalanth’s industries build jump-capable starships as well as they construct mining equipment, they could soon come to dominate the regional markets. Several regional competitors are worried by this potential development.

This world’s name was taken from that great scifi book series, The Dumarest Saga, written by E. C. Tubb, and published from 1967 to 2008. I make no claim to the name; I am only using it as an homage to a series which heavily influenced me (and, according to legend, Traveller itself).
