Ophan is a system which may be headed for war, or civil war, depending on who you ask.
The miners in the system’s 6th orbit supported a local leader in rebellion, throwing the corporate elements out. Soon after, this these miners (having been misled) began to realize they need support from Ophan to survive, and now their new leader is talking about bringing in outside help. Everyone realizes this won’t lead to true independence. The miners aren’t happy – and are powerless to do anything about it, as higher tech weaponry and mercenaries were brought in to support the revolution. Conditions are unstable.
The new leader reached out to the mining groups farther out in the system (the belt in orbit 8); her offers of friendship were thoroughly rebuffed. News of this has not reached Ophan, however, and world leaders are uncertain of where this second group’s loyalties reside.
Ophan itself does not have the population base, nor adequate training, to conduct military operations against the rebels. What Ophan does have is money, and lots of it. Rumors and news reports indicate the world’s leaders have begun hiring mercenaries to deal with the situation.

This is my 31st hand-generated “System of the Day” using the Traveller5 rules. My goal is to publish one random system per day in 2020.
This world’s name was taken from that great scifi book series, The Dumarest Saga, written by E. C. Tubb, and published from 1967 to 2008. I make no claim to the name; I am only using it as an homage to a series which heavily influenced me (and, according to legend, Traveller itself).
This system was generated by hand with a set of dice I have owned for over 30 years, using the Traveller5 rules. Feel free to use this system in your own campaigns, but please do not publish them for profit, nor publish without obtaining prior permission. Thank you!
As always, comments and input are appreciated. Keep On Travelling!
