System of the Day #32 – Zabul

Lying off the major trade lanes, Zabul received only occasional ship traffic (usually scheduled runs). Recently, a ship arrived in system to find a mystery – EVERYONE in the system had died, and apparently rapidly.

Other worlds sent ships and assistance, but found no survivors. Early indications are the populace died in some sort of fast acting plague or disease, as no warnings or requests for help were received.

The system has been declared a “No Travel Zone”; no ships are allowed to land on any world in the system, as a precaution, and all ship traffic is being warned away from the system entirely, until the mystery is solved. Authorities do not want whatever killed the populace off to spread to other worlds; they are assuming it is very contageous. All ships arriving in the system will (hopefully) be tracked, and escorted out of the system, for their own safety.

Back in other systems, news agencies are reporting many possible explanations, everything from targeted virii, to natural diseases, to “unknown alien entities”. In addition, any ship which has visited Zabul within the last year will be quarantined, and kept in isolation for at least a month, as a precaution.

This is my 32nd hand-generated “System of the Day” using the Traveller5 rules. My goal is to publish one random system per day in 2020.
This world’s name was taken from that great scifi book series, The Dumarest Saga, written by E. C. Tubb, and published from 1967 to 2008. I make no claim to the name; I am only using it as an homage to a series which heavily influenced me (and, according to legend, Traveller itself).
This system was generated by hand with a set of dice I have owned for over 30 years, using the Traveller5 rules. Feel free to use this system in your own campaigns, but please do not publish them for profit, nor publish without obtaining prior permission. Thank you!

As always, comments and input are appreciated. Keep On Travelling!
