Ahemait was not the first world colonized in this system. That honor went to the tidally locked world in the primary star’s first orbit. However every attempt to permanently settle that world have ended in failure. The first colonists were killed in a plague. The next group suffered an early disaster: a fire destroyed their life support equipment, and no assistance was in the system to provide help. The third group just disappeared.
After these disasters the world was abandoned as “cursed”. Scattered ruins still exist on the world. Rumors are surfacing that another group may be interested in this world once again.
Ahemait itself is a big, heavy world. Although the climate is good, the world’s very high gravity and tainted atmosphere makes living here difficult, and unpleasant. But at least it’s not cursed. This is the main factor in the world’s low population; one must be tough to endure the gravity for long periods, and it inhibits settlement. Thus the world remains a backwater system.
Ahemait does have one thing in its favor: tourism, specifically big game hunting. To survive here creatures must be strong and very tough. A variety of large, strong, and aggressive carnivores have evolved here. These creatures are a significant challenge to even the best hunters in the region, even those with higher tech equipment (which seems to give them no significant advantages), as the gravity and environment is harsh on gear, as well as hunters. Many hunters are killed each year. Rather than decrease tourism, the number of hunting parties seems to increase each season. One limiting factor, however, is the guides themselves; even the best hunters suffer defeat and accidents, and this world has claimed more than its fair share of the best. It is becoming increasingly difficult to find guides who aren’t already booked – or who are even willing to take on the challenge.

This is my 41st hand-generated “System of the Day” using the Traveller5 rules. My goal is to publish one random system per day in 2020.
This system was generated by hand with a set of dice I have owned for over 30 years, using the Traveller5 rules. Feel free to use this system in your own campaigns, but please do not publish them for profit, nor publish without obtaining prior permission. Thank you!
As always, comments and input are appreciated. Keep On Travelling!
