Moarus was originally settled for the unique gas mixtures of its harsh atmosphere. In recent decades the industries which once relied on Moarus’ output have begun to synthesize (or replace) them, and Moarus’ industries have been in decline ever since. Nowhere is this more evident than at its starport facilities, where large sections have been sealed off to reduce maintenance needs and prevent accidents. However, it is a simple procedure to obtain hydrogen, and refined fuel is available, and inexpensive.
The belters in the system’s asteroid belts have always maintained their independence from outside rule, and they have formed their own government in recent years, doing so to prevent encroachment by outside mining conglomerates. Representatives to an Assembly are elected/selected by various groups, representing the interests of the involved parties. The number of representatives changes occasionally, with the success or failure of companies, making political bargaining an interesfing spectacle. But this system works for their needs.
One local company has discovered a unique/rare chemical compound, located in the oceans of the world in the system’s 7th orbit. Collecting this chemical is problematic, at best, and the company’s on site technicians are researching the issue. It is hoped a solution can be found, as this would help stimulate the local economy.
