Elgish is another backwater system, which is surprising. The world is small, but maintains a dense atmosphere with a temperate climate, supporting a rich environment. It has a desirable, rich habitat envied by many worlds.
Elgish orbits a gas giant, providing a ready source of fuel, allowing the government to outlaw ocean refueling (to protect the world’s lifeforms). Of course, this doesn’t necessarily keep ship captains from using the oceans; after all it is closer, and much safer. The goverment is ok with this, as long as care is taken, and no accidents occur.
With around 1000 citizens, Elgish doesn’t have much in the way of infrastructure. Most of its people live in scattered small towns centered around the meager starport. The capital city itself (sitting on an ocean bay 100 km from the port) holds around 100 people, by far the largest concentration on Elgish. About 10% of the people live “wandering lives” – prospectors, hunters, guides, and the like.
Elgish itself has decent resources, almost all of which remain untapped. There is huge potential for growth, if only the locals were interested. The citizens seem content to live out their lives in this manner, unfettered by the trappings and stress of high tech societies.
Only once has the world had to deal with a serious external issue. A group of pirates tried to set up shop, taking over the starport to support their endeavors.
They lasted a week.
No one talks about it, but there are a pair of ship hulks rusting in the capital city’s bay, and evidence of a serious battle on the edges of the starport.

This is my 65th hand-generated “System of the Day” entry, using the Traveller5 (T5) rules, from Far Future Enterprises. My goal is to publish one random system per day in 2020.
This system was generated by hand, using a set of dice I have owned for over 30 years, and using the Traveller5 (T5) rules set. Feel free to use this system in your own campaigns. Permission is granted to publish these results, as long as the copyrights of Far Future Enterprises are not violated, and no money is charged for them.
This world’s name was taken from that great scifi book series, The Dumarest Saga, written by E.C. Tubb, and published from1967 to 2008. I make no claim to this world name; I use it only as an homage to a series which heavily influenced me (and, according to legend, Traveller itself).
As always, comments and input are appreciated.
KEEP ON TRAVELLING!
