Saliv is a very important, high technology world. Its industries are a powerhouse in the region, dominating the regional economy. It has a small, but efficient defense system, which can easily defend against most incursions with its high tech advantage.
Saliv’s 33 billion citizens are ruled by a very efficient administration, which supports the rulings of a popular (elected) dictator. It should be noted that this leader is elected from a small list of eligible candidates. How this list is compiled is difficult to explain to those not native to the system, and would take up far too much effort and time to explain here. The main element seems to be the candidate must NOT be seeking the job… Given the benefits of the job, many people are seeking the position, and try to hire teams to make a pitch for them. It never works, but this doesn’t stop them from trying.
Inside the primary star’s jump limit, the system is dominated by large worlds, whose size, atmospheres, and climates preclude settlement. The two orbits “sandwiching” Saliv hold very large gas giants, the moons of which offer no habitable environments for humans.
The outer system has only two other settled worlds. The first is a rather radioactive world. This world lies just beyong the system’s habitable zone, but still supports life. Explorers have determined that the world is suitable for long term habitation as long as certain medical routines are followed. Thus, the world supports a smallish settlement, many of whom are miners and prospectors.
The other settled world lies in the habitable zone of the system’s companion star. This world’s climate is good, but the world is not. It is a poor world, and the world’s seven million citizen struggle to survive. This world is controlled by a dictator. Her grandfather took control of the world to popular acclaim. Unfortunately, his promises led to no improvements, and the citizens became more disgruntled with his rule. The new dictator, who was in control behind the scenes for at least a decade, brought in high tech equipment to enforce iron clad law in the main settlements, a move which has proven even more unpopular with the citizens. The Dictator is supported by offworld concerns, most likely a corporation from Saliv, but no evidence has turned up regarding who is assisting her to retain control.

ADVENTURING OPPORTUNITIES – A small list of potential situations. Each must be fleshed out by the GM.
1. Investigation. Someone has hired the players to investigate the leadership of a major corporation back on Saliv. The patron believes the investigation’s target is the power backing the far outer world’s control of their small government. Can the players ferret out the truth, without being killed, or having their careers ruined?
2. ELECTED! For when you really, really want to mess with a player… One of the group’s players is from Saliv. The group is visiting the world, and it happens to be election time. The player in question, who knows just how difficult the role of Dictator can be, wakes up to news reporters telling him he’s suddenly the leading candidate for the position. And the vote takes place in just a few hours. Can the player manage to keep from being elected, knowing that this means the end of his adventuring career?
