Chamelard is a small, resource hungry world. It’s mid-tech industries are rather inefficient, and in need of materials, as well as some upgrades; although the system’s technology level is rated at 10 (A), many industries perform around TL 9, or even 8.

Rather than spend the credits needed for improvements, it seems many industrial leaders would rather pour more resources into their efforts. This is the main reason a mining colony has been established in the companion system. However, company and government officials are quickly learning that this may not be enough to keep their businesses profitable and competitive. Many industry observers are predicting several plant closures, unless improvements are made within the next few years.

One other major factor which adds to the inefficiency of Chamelard’s industries is distance. Chamelard is far from its primary star [in the system’s 10th orbit], but it still lies far inside the jump limit – 77 AU, to be precise. This adds to the required travel times to reach markets, increasing the cost of its industries’ already inefficient prices. In attempting to combat this issue, a consortium of local industries, with government backing, have just finished construction of a jump point station. This provides a nearby stopping point for ships which do not wish to make the long journey to the world; they can refuel, swap cargoes and passengers, etc, without the added travel time. Any cargoes and passengers which do need to reach Chamelard must still take local transport, of course. But the consortium believes this will alleviate at least some concerns raised by other business. What effect this has on local sales remains to be seen.

Naturally, the inner system is almost never visited by starships. No world in the inner system is worth taking the extreme time necessary for such endeavors, and the inner system’s resources aren’t notable, as of the last major survey (conducted centuries ago).

This is my 86th hand-generated “System of the Day” entry, using the Traveller5 (T5) rules, from Far Future Enterprises. My goal is to publish one random system per day in 2020.

——————————
This world’s name was taken from that great scifi book series, The Dumarest Saga, written by E.C. Tubb, and published from1967 to 2008. I make no claim to this world name; I use it only as an homage to a series which heavily influenced me (and, according to legend, Traveller itself).

This system was generated by hand, using a set of dice I have owned for over 30 years, and using the Traveller5 (T5) rules set. Feel free to use this system in your own campaigns. Permission is granted to publish these results, as long as the copyrights of Far Future Enterprises are not violated, and no money is charged for them.

As always, comments and input are appreciated.
KEEP ON TRAVELLING!
