Thandierilia [then-deh-RILL-ee-ah] is a resource heavy world, located near several industrial worlds in the region. It has capitalized on these rich resources by extensively mining the system’s vast mineral deposits. The proceeds from ore sales have been used to fund technological growth, as well as development of infrastructure for its citizens and mining industry. Though Thandierilia isn’t a rich world, its citizens are certainly well off, being proud of what they have accomplished, and enjoying the fruits of their labors. They are fully supportive of the world’s current leader, an industrial leader elected to the position by his peers (with approval of the citizenry).
Thandierilia has developed a small, but potent and efficient, local navy (which is not capable of making jumps to other systems) to protect its local assets against attack. This became a necessity after numerous of attacks occurred in the system; several ships were damaged or destroyed, and a number cargoes stolen. These attacks were suspected of being conducted by pirates, and most were proven as such; several pirate ships were eventually captured, with direct evidence (or confessions) confirming the activity. There were also rumors, however, of some attacks being backed by rival systems and/or corporations in the region, seeking to interfere with Thandierilia’s profitability and growth. It is about this time when the government, fully backed by the system’s industrial leaders, began greatly improving the system’s defenses and Navy. The system is now “pirate free”, and very few attacks have occurred within the last several years. Due to past events, however, there has been no decrease in funding for the Navy, as other nearby systems are still dealing with piracy issues.

NOTE: These systems, as generated, are generic. Referees will need to modify the system and descriptions to fit their campaign needs.

ADVENTURING OPPORTUNITIES – A small list of potential situations. Each must be fleshed out by the GM to fit his/her campaign and party needs.
1. Troubles? The players are approached by an individual who wants them to perform, “a dangerous job”. He will immediately state that no, this job is in no way legal, and they can expect no one to bail them out if they are captured. In fact, he states the players will almost certainly be executed if caught by authorities. He states he works indirectly for unnamed parties, who wish to disrupt trade within the Thandierilia system. He has obtained a list of shipment times and dates for the next several weeks within that system, and the players (if they accept the job) are to disrupt that trade as much as possible. [If the players do not have a ship, their payment will be an older ship, armed, with a clear title, plus cash. If they have a ship, they will be given rewards based on the group’s needs, as well as improvements to the ship if needed (armaments, sensors, repairs). The players will be responsible for disposal of any captured cargoes and crews; the client is not concerned with the fate of these cargoes and ships; their main goal is disruption of trade within the Thandierilia system. Will the players accept such a dangerous job? Can they trust the Patron? Are they being set up?

This is my 89th hand-generated “System of the Day” entry, using the Traveller5 (T5) rules, from Far Future Enterprises. My goal is to publish one random system per day in 2020.
——————————
This system was generated by hand, using a set of dice I have owned for over 30 years, and using the Traveller5 (T5) rules set. Feel free to use this system in your own campaigns. Permission is granted to publish these results, as long as the copyrights of Far Future Enterprises are not violated, and no money is charged for them.

As always, comments and input are appreciated.

Another hook could be that the players are immediately pounced on with overwhelming forces by the local navy, being told their ship has been responsible for multiple piracy actions over the past few months… then the players are exonerated after “their ship” is involved in another piracy action while they are imprisoned. Then the navy offers a great deal of money for help catching/destroying the pirates. Do the players help?
