Argonilla is a minor world, which is almost completely covered by oceans (97%), a fact which has inhibited the world’s economic growth to some degree. While the system isn’t exactly ‘drowning’ in resources, it isn’t lacking them, either. Unfortunately, the vast majority of mineral and ore resources are found deep beneath the world’s oceans, which makes gaining those resources “somewhat complicated”. At the urging of the government, local companies have refused to trade local control (via stocks) for higher tech off world resources, resulting in very slow development of these resources, as well as slowing the growth of Argonilla’s economy in general. This approach is preferred by most citizens, as it keeps off-world control out of the planet’s economy and government.

Argonilla’s government is truly representative, consisting of several layers of political committees.  To outsiders it may seem as if one quarter of the world’s 600,000+ people are involved in the government in some manner. In reality, no member of any committee, at any level of the government, is paid a salary, and there are no political parties. At the local level, citizen involvement is around 30-35%, but decreases at higher levels of government. There are usually six layers in the world’s government, though this can (and has) changed on rare occasions.

Officially Argonilla has no restrictions on almost anything. Citizens are free to do as they wish, within strictly defined, socially acceptable limits. These limits are usually straightforward: commit no harm, no theft, protect the environment, and so forth. Very few citizens are armed, though most have weapons available (and know how to use them), as there are a number of somewhat dangerous lifeforms residing in the world’s oceans, especially near the few shorelines. There are a number of necessary import restrictions, necessary to protect the local environment, as well as the local economy. These aren’t overbearing rules, but are strictly enforced by a small and efficient starport staff.

The single world orbiting the system’s companion star was settled by Argonilla citizens. Technically, it is controlled by Argonilla. In reality, it runs its own affairs, as local control is always best. This colony has strong ties to Argonilla. This world is engaged in some mining, and the local citizens are interested in ideas to planetform the world, in an effort to improve living conditions.

This is my 11th hand-generated “System of the Day” entry, using the Traveller5 (T5) rules, from Far Future Enterprises. My goal is to publish one random system per day in 2020.
——————————
This world’s name was taken from that great scifi book series, The Dumarest Saga, written by E.C. Tubb, and published from 1967 to 2008. I make no claim to this world name; I use it only as an homage to a series which heavily influenced me (and, according to legend, Traveller itself).

This system was generated by hand, using a set of dice I have owned for over 30 years, and using the Traveller5 (T5) rules set. Feel free to use this system in your own campaigns. Permission is granted to publish these results, as long as the copyrights of Far Future Enterprises are not violated, and no money is charged for them.

As always, comments and input are appreciated.
KEEP ON TRAVELLING!
