Byota is a minor world in a resource-rich system. It orbits a fairly small gas giant in the system’s habitable zone. Although the world is small, the high iron content in the planetary crust allows for a higher than expected gravitational pull, giving Byota half a G of gravity.
Byota’s atmosphere is highly tainted with iron; residents and visitors must wear full face filters to keep iron particles out of their lungs and eyes, as long term exposure can result in increased cancer risks, along with other assorted health issues.
This taint is a blessing in disguise, however. A regional mining company has been conducting a series of experiments regarding extracting the iron from the world’s atmosphere. While some few scientists theorize this could alter the world’s atmospheric composition over time, the reality this is a highly unlikely occurrence, as there is far too much iron in the atmosphere for such techniques to make a lasting impact. However, if some of these techniques prove to be of use, it may easily prove to be a more cost effective technique than traditional mining.
