Nuphinov is a fairly important world. It is a major stop on local trade routes, and has been a bread basket world for centuries, providing food and (especially) grain to nearby high population worlds. In general the local climate, though somewhat dry, is ideal for both farming and humans. Even though Nuphinov’s production is declining as its population grows, the world is still a major regional producer of agricultural products.
Once a very wealthy world, Nuphinov’s increasing population has put strain on the world’s economy. This has lead to problems in the government, with some parties calling for a ban on further out-system setters. Indeed, some extremists are calling for limiting local population growth, in an effort to, “bring back the good old days of prosperity”. While such demands have been scoffed at in the past, the movement is beginning to gain some traction with the lower classes, and the government is growing concerned. Whatever may occur politically, the Nuphinov’s population is predicted to surpass one billion within a few decades, further impacting production.
The planetoid belt in the outer system (orbit #8) is a rich, major supplier of raw materials. By agreement, it has been mined almost exclusively by corporations from a nearby industrial world, with a long standing treaty in place providing ample profits for products from both worlds. There is a great deal of traffic between the systems, and both maintain large local Navies to deter piracy. The Navy maintains a refueling station and minor base around the system’s single gas giant. This giant is also a minor tourist attraction, as the world is noted for its wide series of rings.
