Meotis is an important, fairly dry world. Meotis (pronounced “Mey-oh-tis” officially, though others may disparagingly pronounce it, “me-OW-tis”) orbits a large gas giant with a turbulent atmosphere, which makes frontier refueling “rather interesting” for starship captains. Most visiting ships refuel at the convenient starport, rather than risk the giant’s atmosphere.

The Meotis star system is noted for its extremely rich mineral resources. The system’s planetoid belt is particularly valuable, and several local corporations have divied up the belt between them. Competition between these three companies follows a set of agreed upon, unwritten rules. These guidelines help maintain order and peace between them. Independent prospectors and other corporations, however, are unwelcome in the belt. Other groups attempting to prospect here can expect a rather heated welcome; accidents are a frequent occurence, and the government almost always turns a blind eye to these events.
