Draitus was settled for its strategic location – as a fuel stop in a system with no easily accessible fuel sources. Ice mining for fuel is illegal here, and rigorously enforced. The world maintains a generous (if not exactly high tech) satellite sensor net, and several units of fighters, one squadron of which has been imported from a nearby, higher tech world. Fuel prices average 50% higher than other systems, and refined fuel is available.
Draitus’ inner system worlds are rarely visited, as there are few resources and no planets worthy of colonization. The next world out from Draitus (orbit #10) has been “settled” by groups of independent mining families. The world holds a single small “town”, with most everyone else living a semi-nomadic existence, tracing and mining small ore deposits. No large ore deposit has ever been located here, though there plentiful, if scattered, smaller deposits. Thus it is uneconomical for any larger companies to mine on this world, but productive for enterprising independents.
One region in Draitus’ ice fields is known for its ice caverns. Many of these caverns are lit from the surface via crevasses, and others from within, creating beautiful scenery for locals and tourists.
