Kaldar is a small world with a normal atmosphere, a rare occurrence. The world itself is denser than equivalent worlds, allowing it to retain a normal atmosphere, and provide higher than expected gravity for its inhabitants. Although Kaldar is a cold world, lying beyond the system’s habitable zone, it does retain more than enough heat to support life. Kaldar’s first colonists brought with them a wide variety of ‘human’ (i.e., Terran) life. which adapted to their new environment with fewer problems than expected.
Several other worlds in the system are inhabited, or being evaluated for potential colonization, most noticeably the world in orbit #5. Lying within the system’s “Goldilocks” (habitable) zone, the world has a very thin atmosphere. As it does retain a fair amount of surface water, teams of scientists are evaluating the possibility of planetforming the world, adding or increasing the atmosphere.
The planetoid society of Munnora is of growing concern to the government of Kaldar. The influence and wealth of the belters’ society is increasing steadily, and there is concern on Kaldar that they may eventually supplant Kaldar in importance. To attempt to forestall this, the government is looking into options for improving the world’s standing in the region. Most studies to this point have determined that the world needs to improve its starport in order to improve on the two main factors needing upgrades: Kaldar’s population level, and its technological base. These improvements would require immense amounts of capital, and the wealthy classes (who control the government) are not happy with the amount of money required. With the reluctance of the wealthy to spend the necessary credits, there exists the strong possibility Kaldar will be surpassed in importance by the belters within a couple generations.

This is my 123rd hand-generated “System of the Day” entry, using the Traveller5 (T5) rules, from Far Future Enterprises. My goal is to publish one random system per day in 2020.
——————————
This world’s name was taken from that great scifi book series, The Dumarest Saga, written by E.C. Tubb, and published from 1967 to 2008. I make no claim to this world name; I use it only as an homage to a series which heavily influenced me (and, according to legend, Traveller itself).

This system was generated by hand, using a set of dice I have owned for over 30 years, and using the Traveller5 (T5) rules set. Feel free to use this system in your own campaigns. Permission is granted to publish these results, as long as the copyrights of Far Future Enterprises are not violated, and no money is charged for them.
