Frone is a important, high population, very high technology world. The world was settled by religious extremists, fleeing another civilization and their ‘overbearing rules’. Once settled, Frone’s government has become, by most accounts, much worse than most any other government in the region.
Frone’s government is a Religious Autocracy. Ordinary citizens have very few rights, and no real freedoms. Their every move is watched with high technology sensors and tracking equipment. Citizens are constantly bombarded with propaganda, and are routinely harassed by the Church’s Police. A citizen’s only bid for any degree of relief and freedom is to earn a place in the Church’s Apparatus. Of course, conditions within their ranks are reported to be worse. But at least they have an outlet for their frustrations, much to the detriment of the world’s citizens.
Visitors to Frone are in for an experience. All ships are intercepted by one of the system’s numerous patrol craft, and are escorted to the main starport, an orbital facility located millions of kilometers from Frome. All ships, crew, and passengers, are subjected to rigorous questioning as to their reasons for being in the system, their intentions, their schedules, and a host of other intrusive questions. All cargoes are thoroughly inspected. Smuggling is not an advised activity on Frone, as the penalty for all such infractions is execution. Very few have made such an attempt, and to date none have been reported to be successful.
Potential admittance to Frone includes a lengthy medical examination using high technology medical (and other) scanning techniques. This thorough examination does have positive side benefits, surprisingly: several visitors were found to have underlying medical conditions, which were corrected (or at least alleviated) in Church clinics (the Church and its government may be overbearing, but it is concerned with the physical health of its citizens, which extends to visitors); and Frone has not once been subject to any sort of medical plague which originated from out of the system. Its citizens may be miserable, but they are healthy.
The companion system planetoid belt is a former prison, which has expanded into a full-fledged society – controlled by the Church of course. Much of the system’s heavy industry has been relocated here over the centuries, to take advantage of easy access to resources in the belt, as well as to utilize the low gravity conditions for construction purposes. There is a heavy military (especially Fleet) presence here.
Many of Frone’s neighbors in the region are understandably concerned with their zealous neighbor. After all, with its large military force and very high technology, Frone could easily roll over many neighboring systems. Some analysts aren’t really concerned, however, as exposing its military and citizens to outside influences would undermine their, ahem, ‘programming’, and make it difficult for the Church leadership to maintain control. In addition they point to data which shows the Church is generally unconcerned with activities in other systems; there has been no evidence uncovered showing the Church supports activities in other nearby systems.

This is my 126th hand-generated “System of the Day” entry, using the Traveller5 (T5) rules, from Far Future Enterprises. My goal is to publish one random system per day in 2020.
——————————
This world’s name was taken from that great scifi book series, The Dumarest Saga, written by E.C. Tubb, and published from 1967 to 2008. I make no claim to this world name; I use it only as an homage to a series which heavily influenced me (and, according to legend, Traveller itself).

This system was generated by hand, using a set of dice I have owned for over 30 years, and using the Traveller5 (T5) rules set. Feel free to use this system in your own campaigns. Permission is granted to publish these results, as long as the copyrights of Far Future Enterprises are not violated, and no money is charged for them.

As always, comments and input are appreciated.
