Golloth is a world which should have a larger population; after all, it has a “shirt sleeve” climate, great weather, good gravity, and ample water, flora, and fauna.
What Golloth does not have is friendly citizens. Gollothians DO NOT like visitors. Although they do not outright forbid them from visiting their world, they do not encourage it in any manner. They are outright rude and insulting. This has greatly limited the world’s growth, and stunted its potential for development.
It may be (and has been) considered by some to just invade, or overwhelm the current natives with numbers; after all, it can be difficult for anyone to deal with opponents when vastly outnumbered. But the Gollothians have an advantage: there are native flora which cause sickness, and even death, in most non-native lifeforms. The current residents have acclimatized, their ancestors having been found to be resistant, or even immune, to the dangerous flora. And fortunately for them this immunity has been passed down to succeeding generations. One other major advantage: only a small handful of Gollothians know which plants caused the condition – and they aren’t revealing their secrets.
They also have a major problem: the population has been steadily declining, and local knowledge is not up to the task of determining why. If they can’t determine the cause, it is highly likely the world will die out within several generations. Local stubbornness and pride prevents them from asking for assistance. But they are faced with the extinction of their culture. Will they be able to muster the courage to ask for outside assistance, and if they do what will the ultimate cost be?
NOTE: These systems, as generated, are generic. Referees will need to modify the system and descriptions to fit their campaign needs.
