Gnion is a fairly important world in the region. The world has a little too much water to be a good agriculture world, but still manages a decent output, being mainly noted for a local species similar to lobster. This variety has become a delicacy on nearby worlds, and is highly sought. Indeed, at one point demand was so great the species was threatened with extinction due to over-farming.
The government was forced to step in to prevent this catastrophe from occurring. The government’s intervention resulted in ‘turf violence’, small scale fighting between various suppliers. The violence was contained only through strict weapons laws, which have not to this day been rescinded. It is believed by some that the weapons restrictions will soon be lifted, though others disagree with this assessment, and believe the government will maintain the ban to keep peace.
The society on the world in the system’s sixth orbit is a ‘holdover’ society, a former mining world. The original mines (lanthanum) have played out, though other resources are extracted. The miners and some companies remained, having come to love their frozen world with its slightly radioactive atmosphere. The locals reside in a series of over a hundred hollowed out tunnel systems and natural caverns. Several of these cavern systems are quite extensive, possessing a natural beauty unrivaled on most nearby worlds. These cavern systems are slowly becoming a popular tourist attraction, considered well worth the expense required to visit.
