Lirixus is a somewhat important world. Lying on a main trade route, it is an important refuel and resupply stopover. The world’s listed population shows only permanent residents; there are thousands more who stay for several weeks, or even months, awaiting transport to their ultimate destination. Many large regional corporations and shipping firms maintain offices here, and much trade is conducted.
Although the world has “no law”, there are laws regarding trade and commerce. Keeping those rules enforced, however, can sometimes be a challenge for the overworked starport employees and inspectors. It is rumored pirates also make use of the “law free” facilities, though this has never been proven to anyone’s satisfaction. If such pirates are making use of the system, they are following all local laws, as very few disturbances have occurred.
The system’s inner most gas giant (orbit 0) is not only large (large giants tend to have violent atmospheres), it is also bathed in radiation from the primary star. These combine to produce some of the most violent atmospheric events known to occur. Research has shown the gas giant’s core spins at a high rate,  which undoubtedly adds to it. To date, very few ships have attempted to skim fuel out of this gas giant’s atmosphere. Of those which have made the attempt, none are known to have survived the experience. The world’s atmosphere is so dangerous, the government maintains a ring of satellites around it, warning off all attempts, stating there will be NO attempts made to rescue ships and crew which make the attempt. All insurance companies in the region have a clause in their coverage, stating any claims are null and void if any attempts are made by the covered vessel to enter this world’s turbulent atmosphere.
