Yezuno is a world which closely orbits a gas giant. As the world is tidally locked, local conditions are rather interesting. The gas giant dominates the sky, bathing the world in radiation; fortunately, Yezuno has a strong magnetic field to protect it. Yezuno’s high population (over three billion) are concentrated along The Rim, the slim tidal zone created by it’s locked orbit, as well as on the ‘dark’ side of the planet, where domed cities and farmlands are the norm. Many of the world’s larger industrial complexes are located near this rim on the bright side of the world, some located inside mountain ranges for protection from heat and radiation.
The world in the system’s fourth orbit is a new colony effort, attempting to create a ‘farming community’ to support Yezuno’s burgeoning population. Unfortunately, more than one group has made the initial effort to establish the world, and these groups each see themselves as the ‘rightful’ legal colony. As all three groups landed in the same general time frame, the issue of who was ‘first’ is clouded. This world is a water world, with less than 1% of its surface available for living space. As the three groups are separated by large oceans, the groups are, for the moment, remaining independent of one another. It is conjectured that once the population begins to increase, there will be problems between the groups. Efforts by the home governments are underway to alleviate tensions between the colony groups, but so far these efforts are showing little improvement.
In the farthest reaches of the system lies a frozen world. While this world is technically habitable, it is far to distant from the central star to receive enough heat and energy. The world is a dark, frozen wasteland. Even so, a local company has established a small mine. Located in a large mountain cavern system, the company’s employees are collecting/gathering a rare crystal, which is an essential component for jump drives. Testing of these crystals is still underway, but results so far indicate these natural crystals greatly outperform manufactured versions. If these results are maintained, the company stands to make large profits, as use of these crystals could greatly increase power transfer efficiency for jumps.
