Zenkarota is another minor world. The world sees little commercial traffic, owing to its location and low population. It also has a thin atmosphere, and is tidally locked to the primary star. Zenkarota is large enough, however, to maintain a decent magnetic field, deflecting most of the star’s radiation output. What radiation does get through, however, creates problems for the inhabitants, mainly in the form of genetic mutations (birth defects), and low survival rates for newborns. This is a major reason Zenkarota’s population remains so low. Cancer is another long term issue, though the world’s slowly increasing technology base is helping somewhat with these issues.
The citizens and government are always encouraging new people to emigrate to Zenkarota. It is hoped that “fresh blood”, so to speak, will help invigorate the society, and improve conditions in the long run. One factor which both helps, and hinders, the situation is the system’s immense resources. Mining is a major industry in the system. It is hoped that a fresh influx of new colonists will help improve the ability of the local companies to compete economically in the region. Note that most of the system’s resources remain ‘untapped’ in general. The government has always attempted to keep mining throughout the system restricted to local companies and residents. This has created problems and small conflicts in the past, though recent years have been somewhat peaceful. There have also been issues with pirates, though owing to the presence of strong governments (and their Navies) in nearby systems, these issues haven’t been long running ones.
