Hiyama is a world of growing importance in the region. As the system’s lone gas giant is located in the habitable zone (and it has no satellites worth colonizing), the planetoid belt was settled instead. This has proven to be a good strategy, as the new colonists had easy access to resources to construct their habitats.
The colony is a series of hollowed out planetoids, ten of them having populations around 50,000 each, and the main habitat having around 250,000. The remaining population is scattered around the belt in small community habitats, some of which take weeks of travel to reach. Please note: due to the configuration/layout of the belt, making an in-system jump attempt is problematic, at best. The system’s planetoid bodies have been surveyed and mapped, but the map is incomplete, throwing off calculations, and making a local jump attempt, “rather interesting”.
Note the high law level (D – 13). There have always been problems providing food for citizens, and there have been food riots and protests in the recent past. The high law level was instituted to prevent theft and smuggling of food items, as profiteering and favoritism was becoming a major problem. New aquatic farms are being constructed, but they won’t be ready for some time yet. Until that time, the government has announce the restrictions will remain in place. This is, naturally, causing some discontent amongst certain groups.
