Elore is another backwater world, located in a resource poor system which lies off a minor trade route. The world itself is also poor, with little water and a thin but breathable atmosphere. There are no large bodies of water, and water sources are scattered around the globe, almost as if someone were to have dropped small confetti pieces out of a starship and watched them float to the world’s surface aimlessly and haphazardly. Siphoning water from these sources for starship fuel is highly illegal, but the government is powerless to stop visiting ships from doing so, as long as they remain out of sight. Those ships and captains known to have violated this law are “blacklisted”; if they return to Elore and are found guilty, they will be brutally executed for this crime. Ship captains are advised to be aware of this.
The world’s 200,000 or so people are also scattered around the world, clustering around water sources where life is a little easier. There are few ways to earn a living here, and the world produces almost nothing for export which would interest a merchant captain.
There are other settlements scattered in the system. These are mainly groups of belt miners, prospecting the planetoid belts, and several other worlds and satellites. These groups produce some ore, but not nearly enough to attract investment in the system by major corporations. Because of this the system remains a stagnant backwater. Even most pirates in the region do little more than pass through; there’s nothing for them to steal here, and they’ve learned the hard way to leave the belt miners alone.
