Yivoth is a minor world in the region. Yivoth is unique in that it orbits a world which is nearly the same size as itself. This is not the only odd fact of the pairing. The central world may not be much larger than its satellite, Yivoth, but it has a much higher gravity, owing to its dense composition. It retains a dense, breathable atmosphere while having no water on its surface whatsoever. Yivoth, on the other hand, has a very thin, low-pressure atmosphere, while being almost entirely covered with oceans. Scientists who have studied the worlds are usually perplexed, and have yet to come to a consensus on how this pairing managed to form, though many theories have been developed.
Yivoth has a fairly low technology level, though this is more than sufficient for the society’s needs. As there is little land, there are a large number of underwater towns and habitats. Many of the larger cities were constructed with higher, offworld technology. These habitats are maintained by offworld interests.
Two of the system’s three planetoid belts have grown into powerful communities in their own right. Originally established as mining communities, long before Yivoth was settled even, the two groups slowly developed their own proud cultures and traditions, and eventually became legitimate local governments on their own. These two communities rely on outside trade to keep them going, as they are not able to grow nearly enough food for themselves. Fortunately for them, the planetoid belt is still productive, even after centuries of mining. The planetoid belt in the system’s 7th orbit is rather poor in resources, and has almost always been ignored by larger concerns. Currently, a handful of independent belt miners struggle to maintain solvency in their endeavors.
