Shajok is a large, industrial world with a heavily polluted atmosphere. Settled relatively early in humanity’s expansion to the stars, the society’s ancestors ran roughshod over the ecology, damaging it beyond repair. Few of the original native lifeforms survived to the present day, and those which did are heavily protected by the government. Some research is being conducted towards using DNA samples to reestablish some species, but this effort is running into problems. Notable issues include lack of space, and lack of appropriate food sources for these rescued species. Several attempts have ended in horrible failures, drawing much criticism and concern from various citizen groups, as well as government agencies. Though the efforts have largely failed, scientists keep making the attempts. It is feared, however, that these efforts will always be doomed to fail.
The stellar system itself is noticeably lacking in planets. Though there are two stars (one a dim dwarf star), there are only six planets and assorted moons. Thus there is a dearth of resources for local industry. Most ores, etc, necessary for an industrial society must be imported from nearby systems, and the economy struggles to maintain any decent level of efficiency. It is feared by some analysts the world could be heading towards an economic depression, as consumer costs are rising and new, expensive government programs are being created on an almost daily basis.
A new colony has recently been established on the frozen radiation world in the system’s 9th orbit. Nominally independent, and ruled by an elected council of citizens, the true rulers of the system are controlled by Shajok, as this new colony can’t survive without outside support – and they are well aware of this. This colony is mainly a mining concern, though research is being conducted, searching for possible methods to reliably heat the world up.

NOTE: These systems, as generated, are generic. Referees will need to modify the system and descriptions to fit their campaign needs.

This is my 180th hand-generated “System of the Day” entry, using the Traveller5 (T5) rules, from Far Future Enterprises. My goal is to publish one random system per day in 2020.
——————————
This world’s name was taken from that great scifi book series, The Dumarest Saga, written by E.C. Tubb, and published from 1967 to 2008. I make no claim to this world name; I use it only as an homage to a series which heavily influenced me (and, according to legend, Traveller itself).

This system was generated by hand, using my new Traveller dice and the Traveller5 (T5) rules set. Feel free to use this system in your own campaigns. Permission is granted to publish these results, as long as the copyrights of Far Future Enterprises are not violated, and no money is charged for them.

As always, comments and input are appreciated.
