Zakym is a low tech, backwater system. With a low gravity and tainted atmosphere, Zakym isn’t exactly a world on most people’s “bucket list” to visit, and most commercial ships avoid it as well.
Zakym has no central government; three different political groups are attempting to unify the world under a single government, but so far with no success. As these groups have been at odds over control of the world for the last 37 or more years, it appears unlikely the situation will resolve itself quickly… At least this political conflict is not a warlike one.
The remainder of the star system is resource poor. This hasn’t stopped a number of companies and independents from setting up shop in the system, extracting what resources they can find and reach. Most of this group utilize the local starport as a support base for supplies and minor repairs. The starport itself is larger than would normally be found on such a world as Zakym, owing to the presence of these other groups. The associated startown is “rather wild”, with a wild reputation in surrounding systems. That being said, the level of crime here is actually low, though no one can provide a legitimate reason for this lower rate of crime. Certainly, the local police aren’t often seen here…

This world’s name was taken from that great scifi book series, The Dumarest Saga, written by E.C. Tubb, and published from 1967 to 2008. I make no claim to this world name; I use it only as an homage to a series which heavily influenced me (and, according to legend, Traveller itself).
