Cavol is a very unimportant, backwater system, which has fallen on hard times. The world’s facilities have deteriorated over the years as its technology base has eroded, and planetary incomes have fallen. Indeed, the once acceptable Class C starport now lies idle, unused in decades due to neglect and deterioration. The world’s meager mines, once producing adequately to support the society, have long since degraded in quality and quantity, and the world can barely support itself.
The situation is becoming dire for the world’s 1.6 million people, as exports continue to decrease, and systems continue to deteriorate. Their situation has been made worse by the actions of a regional mining conglomerate. Rather than continue to work poorly producing mines on Cavol, this company removed most of its work force and heavy equipment, and set up operations in the main system’s planetoid belt. It claims the belt for itself, citing the government’s total lack of ability to mine and patrol the planetoids, and refuses to pay any sort of taxes to the government. Having no space force whatsoever, there is nothing the government can do about it. This double whammy to Cavol’s economy is being seen as the final blow, and many expect the world to be taken over by some outside government or force. To its credit, the mining conglomerate has not made any offers, or even hints, that it wishes to take over.

This world’s name was taken from that great scifi book series, The Dumarest Saga, written by E.C. Tubb, and published from 1967 to 2008. I make no claim to this world name; I use it only as an homage to a series which heavily influenced me (and, according to legend, Traveller itself).
