Aumont is a fairly important world. Unfortunately, the world itself is wholly unsuited for human habitation, and the society struggles to properly feed its 670+ million citizens without imports. The world’s lack of usable surface space also contributes to its inefficiency, even with 30+ million citizens living in orbital facilities.
Aumont was originally settled by a group of social extremists, who wished to completely cut themselves off from outside contact. Unfortunately, their technology of that time was not up to the task of keeping them fed and alive. The society nearly disappeared, and was ultimately forced to accept outside assistance and trade. This led to the downfall of the original society’s extremist leadership, and slowly the culture altered its outlook.
Today, Aumont is an open, accepting, if somewhat strict, society, led by a popular leader. The society still cannot feed itself without outside assistance, and its economy is a net importer. The world’s leadership is looking for options to alter the economy’s inefficiency. This is deemed as THE most important change needed for the culture to thrive. It is also considered the most difficult task to undertake. The world’s leaders apparently have their work cut out for them…
To this end, the government has sent a number of survey teams to worlds in the inner system. Nominally sent to research the potential for planetary alteration (planetforming), their main goal is to find usable resources to feed the industries. The system’s main planetoid belt (7th orbit) is running out of resources, and most miners and companies have moved to the more distant planetoid belt (13th orbit). Unfortunately, the extreme travel times needed to transport ore from this belt to Aumont will do little to increase the economy’s efficiency. This is unfortunate, but at least the ores found in this belt will keep the industries running for the next several centuries (or so it is hoped; this is based off current production numbers from the new belt facilities). This gives leadership time to work out a solution…

This is my 193rd hand-generated “System of the Day” entry, using the Traveller5 (T5) rules, from Far Future Enterprises. My goal is to publish one random system per day in 2020.
——————————
This world’s name was taken from that great scifi book series, The Dumarest Saga, written by E.C. Tubb, and published from 1967 to 2008. I make no claim to this world name; I use it only as an homage to a series which heavily influenced me (and, according to legend, Traveller itself).

This system was generated by hand, using my new Traveller dice and the Traveller5 (T5) rules set. Feel free to use this system in your own campaigns. Permission is granted to publish these results, as long as the copyrights of Far Future Enterprises are not violated, and no money is charged for them.
