Aurvandil is a minor, low population world. It’s government is a major drain on the world’s efficiency, even with its low law level. Fortunately for the government and its citizens, taxes from the systems’ single planetoid belt (mined by several offworld companies) are more than sufficient to keep the government from running out of credits.
Aurvandil has always had a low population, which runs contrary to its excellent climate and ecology (which should draw more people to the world). Tourism is a minor, but growing, business, and many visitors have expressed an interest in emigrating here. There has always been a reluctance by Aurvandil’s residents to allow more people in, as they believe increasing the population past certain levels will ultimately damage or destroy the world’s unique and vibrant ecology. There are serious discussions among locals and government officials, however, looking into the possibility of opening the world to limited emigration. While this could ultimately result in damage to the ecology, it is seen as a necessary action, in order to stabilize the world’s shaky economy. There are serious concerns the world’s economy could completely collapse within a generation if some sort of concession isn’t reached.
