If ever there was a system to commit a crime in, Tanda’s primary system is certainly NOT the place. With a population approaching 20 billion, a dictatorial government, and extremely intrusive law level, not much serious crime occurs here. Minor crimes, on the other hand, are easier, as long as you are already past customs. It is unlikely you will be successful at smuggling most anything through customs…
Unless you have inside help. And therein lies much of the problem on Tanda. There is widespread corruption within the government agencies, and great levels of outright hatred and competition between the numerous government agencies. In addition, organized crime is rumored to be in control of several agencies, or in positions of power in them, making it difficult for loyal government employees, and even common citizens, to get anything accomplished. It is rumored, and likely apparent, that there may be outright warfare between several of these groups. This bodes ill for Tanda’s citizens as well as numerous corporations and businesses.
Most of the system is relatively unpopulated, with scattered handfuls of belt miners and companies looking for resources. Unfortunately, most of the system’s two planetoid belts have been mined out while supporting the world’s industries, and resources are starting to become scarce, which is driving prices up. Analysts fear the system’s economy is heading for a major depression, and those in positions of power appear to be powerless to do anything about it – or don’t want to.
