Locked in a tidal orbit “a little too close” to the primary star, Indolla has a hot, dry, windy climate. Most of its water is trapped in ice on the world’s cold face, though enough is present in it’s tidal zone to make living there bearable.
Indolla doesn’t have any organization resembling a government. There has never been much need for one, as there aren’t enough people living here to warrant one. About two-thirds of the world’s residents live at the edge of the cold face of the tidal zone, where a large lake provides water. Situated in a mountain valley, this location is protected from the worst of the planet’s winds and blown dust. The rest of the population is made up of various hermits, independent miners/prospectors, and the like.
Crime is a problem on most worlds, but oddly enough, not on Indolla. The residents, while gruff and beaten into submission by the temperatures, weather, and high winds, are fairly tolerant, and look out for each other. This was especially apparent several decades ago, when a group of pirates raided. These pirates learned the hard way to leave Indolla and its independent-minded residents be, and haven’t returned since.
Due to the low population and lack of infrastructure, as well as its “off the beaten path” location, merchants would expect to find little of trade value here. For the most part this is correct, though there are occasional cargoes of common ores, handmade goods, and the like, available, if you know who to ask in the main settlement (and are still in good standing with the locals…)
