Baatz is a cold, important agricultural world. It is known for its cold weather-resistant fruits, as well as its innovative agricultural techniques (and tech). At the end of the world’s various growing seasons (there are only three main growing seasons available, due to climate, geography, and the complications involved with cold weather agriculture), the world sees a large volume of specialty freighter traffic.
Although Baatz is classified as non-industrial, its shipyard does construct a few starships each year. The main emphasis of the yard is, however, specialty shuttle craft (construction and upkeep), which are used to transport fruit from the various farms and vineyards for shipment from the orbital port. These and other specialty small craft designs make up a small portion of the world’s exports.
Baatz’ northern hemisphere is extremely cold, barren, and windswept, for the most part. There is a native hunter in these regions, however, which is a popular target – and significant challenge – for offworld hunters. Known simply as the Snow Beast, this little seen, man-sized creature is a ferocious, stealthy hunter. It is almost impossible to see even on a clear day, and is extremely difficult to track even with high tech sensors. Few are killed each year, with the beasts killing many more hunters than are themselves killed. None have been captured alive, due to the beasts’ ferocious, relentless nature. This has spurred speculation that this creature is at least somewhat intelligent, though there has been no successful research to back this claim.

This is my 221st hand-generated “System of the Day” entry, using the Traveller5 (T5) rules, from Far Future Enterprises. My goal is to publish one random system per day in 2020.

This world’s name was taken from that great scifi book series, The Dumarest Saga, written by E.C. Tubb, and published from 1967 to 2008. I make no claim to this world name; I use it only as an homage to a series which heavily influenced me (and, according to legend, Traveller itself).
