Onordli is one of those systems with almost as many stars as planets – if you don’t include the gas giants, that is. There are barely a million people living here, and the remainder of the system is empty; although known to hold good mineral reserves, the system has (so far) drawn little interest from regional investment and mining companies. The reasons for this apparent ‘neglect’ are unknown, but numerous theories and explanations have been brought forth by those interested in the matter (which isn’t very many people).
Onordli has a robust representative government, one which is remarkably free of corruption. The government body itself is not large, and polices itself quite well. Also, its politicians are elected by direct vote, and are not paid – the positions are entirely voluntary. There have been attempts to influence local politics, though these efforts were quickly detected and removed. It is not currently known where this interference derived from, though many suspect various corporations from other systems, some of which have begun to show an interest in the system’s resources.
The worldlet in the Near Companion system (orbit #3) is a captured planet, though there are those who claim the world was once a moon of that system’s gas giant which was pulled out of its orbit ‘just enough’ to make it a planet instead. This theory could be true, as that ‘planet’ is on the small side, and could easily have been pulled or nudged out of its orbit path around the gas giant.

This is my 239th hand-generated “System of the Day” entry, using the Traveller5 (T5) rules, from Far Future Enterprises. My goal is to publish one random system per day in 2020.

This world’s name was taken from that great scifi book series, The Dumarest Saga, written by E.C. Tubb, and published from 1967 to 2008. I make no claim to this world name; I use it only as an homage to a series which heavily influenced me (and, according to legend, Traveller itself).
