A wet world with a tainted atmosphere, Cararuta is an up-and-coming world. Its atmosphere is tainted by a pollen which had proven deadly to humans over time. Recent developments have made it much easier for the inhabitants to withstand, or even fight off, the pollen’s effects, and Cararuta has begun to see a steady rise in its population – and coincidentally in its economic fortunes.
Almost all visitors to the system never travel to the world surface. Years ago, the government constructed a large orbital space station to enforce a partial quarantine on the world. This port had the side benefit of improving trade, greatly decreasing turnover times for visiting merchants and their vessels. Over time, this port has been expanded, and sees greater traffic, which appears to be increasing in volume each month.
In recent decades Cararuta’s technological development has focused primarily on medical developments, for obvious reasons. All visitors who wish to visit the world must undergo a quarantine, as well as a detailed medical examination, which includes a thorough questionaire regarding worlds the visitor has travelled to. There are some visitors who have commented this is merely a draconian effort to track smugglers and the like; officials scoff at these allegations, citing (correctly) the questionaire’s focus on almost entirely medical matters. However, over the years this examination has prevented the introduction of several dangerous virii into the local environment, as well saving the lives of hundreds of people, many of whom were not even aware they were sick.
The remainder of the Cararuta system is generally ignored, as there are no gas giants or planetoid belts. Few resources worth the considerable effort to extract them have been located, and few companies or individuals have shown any interest in mining the outer system.
