Nahar is another lifeless world. Devoid of an atmosphere, it was settled for the usual reasons – mining. Once the easily mined ores played out, the sponsoring mining companies departed, leaving a number of workers and their families to fend for themselves. In response, those left behind formed a government, immediately outlawing large corporations from operating on the world, and within the system.
To this day, no large corporation has established operations within the system. Independent operators have taken full advantage of this; seven other worlds, and several satellites, have been settled, each run by various groups of independents. These societies have formed a loose confederation of governments within the systems, assisting each other with trade and defense. Unfortunately, no world in the system has sufficient population, technology, nor cash, to maintain a credible military, or even significant police force. However, this united front has been sufficient, apparently, to keep any major corporations from moving back into the system.
The system’s transportation needs are provided by a small group of independent ship owners, each of whom visits the system and its independent worlds on a regular basis. These ships are armed, and have managed to fight off several minor pirate intruders in recent years. There is talk of hiring a mercenary ship to guard and patrol the system, but there is little agreement by the governments as to who is going to pay for these services. It will likely take a consensus from all involved parties to scrape together enough credits to accomplish this goal. Until then, the system appears to be open to harassing raids by pirates, or other groups.
