Yao-Chi is a very important, high tech industrial world. With its high technology it is coming to dominate the economies of several nearby worlds. There is growing concern amongst governments in the region that Yao-Chi may attempt at least one hostile takeover of a neighbor in the near future.
For this to happen militarily, the government of Yao-Chi would have to modernize its starport and shipyard facilities – again – before any such attempt could be made, as there currently is not nearly enough shipyard capacity to build enough vessels. This seems an unlikely avenue for any potential takeover, as the improvements would be easy for anyone to see, and prepare for the possibility.
If any sort of takeover were attempted, the effort would likely be economic. There are those who make the case this is already occurring, and on more than one planet in the area. While some, including most on Yao-Chi, may scoff at such claims, data appears to back these claims up. This is of growing concern to other nearby worlds, which are growing worried.
Yao-Chi itself is a dangerous planet to call home. Ninety-five percent of the world’s surface is covered with shallow acidic oceans. This forced the world’s settlers to tunnel into the rock of the few landmasses. Over the centuries these tunnels have expanded greatly; some are several kilometers deep, and there are sections which span out beneath the world’s acidic seas. This fact, when revealed, as shocked, and even scared, visitors to those sections; the locals just laugh at their nervousness, stating there have been no breaches of their tunnel systems in generations.
