Mera is a minor planet with a very thin atmosphere, and led by a popular governing council. Though popular, there is wide, though usually polite, disagreement over many of the council’s decisions. This disagreement has not let to any sort of rebellions, strikes, or such, up to this point in the world’s recent history; there may be significant disagreement and arguments, but no one has come close to pushing any problems or disagreements to the boiling point.
About the only good thing which can be stated Mera’s atmosphere is, “it is there”, meaning you can go outside without a pressure suit on. You still need a compressor mask, however, if you like to breathe. A suit or some sort of protection is advised, however, as Mera is so small the planetary magnetic field is barely capable of keeping radiation away from the surface. Stellar flares are large concern, naturally, and a government agency was created solely to monitor the potential for these flares. Mera also lacks water.
The lack of atmosphere and water has severely inhibited the development of native life forms on Mera. Those small areas which were found to have the beginnings of life (gemrs, molds, lichens, and so forth) were quickly protected from interference once discovered. Unfortunately, this was not done quickly enough to prevent contamination, and the presence of humans on Mera was sufficient to wipe out the beginnings of life on this poor planet. There are some offworld scientists who suspect there are surviving areas of native life, or that life may have adapted, but searches have turned up no evidence of either theory to date.
