Gleke V is another backwater world sitting well off the established trade routes. The small world’s once sturdy infrastructure has deteriorated over the years, as trade has decreased, and as its better technicians were lured away by offworld corporations. Conditions were very bad for several years, and only the noble efforts of a wandering group of troubadours was able to at least stop most of the structure’s decline. This was a number of years ago, however, and they are once again showing signs of falling apart.
The unenthusiastic citizens of Gleke V (usually just called Gleke) are certainly no longer up to the task. Their technology base has deteriorated to the point they are barely able to keep up with necessary maintenance. They will most certainly be in dire straights if something breaks, and are all-too-aware of this. Even the most surly of residents are willing to take whatever steps are necessary to save their structures and way of live.
Unfortunately, there is very little they can offer in compensation for anyone who may be willing to help. The once productive mines have played out, or been completely sealed for safety reasons, and the world produces almost nothing of value to nearby systems. It is feared they may be forced to give up their freedom, in exchange for needed assistance. This is something they are currently debating – heatedly, at times. Visitors are advised to be careful, as local tempers can flare in a moment.
The system’s 3rd planet, a large, very hot world, has been settled by a group of heavy-worlders – humans adapted to high gravity. This world is very dense, even for its size, and possesses a high gravity. Their settlements are mostly underground, as local temperatures are too extreme during the daytime. This group is currently mining a rich strike of copper. They are also debating what they will do when this mine plays out: remain in the system (which will require extensive infrastructure increases in the near future), or move on to a new location in a nearby system.
