Hemen is an important, overpopulated world. A garden world, Hemen’s population has risen steadily, mainly due to normal population growth plus immigration, and it currently exceeds 80 billion residents. Somehow, the society has managed to preserve much of the world’s natural ecosystem, while maintaining a productive economy.
Much of the society’s industry has been moved to other worlds in the system, in particular Hemen’s lone moon and the closer planetoid belt.  This planning has helped reduce pollution, as has strict implementation of new, improved technologies as they became available. The world’s city centers are dominated by wide pyramid-style mega-cities, which house a majority of the world’s population in relative comfort.
Recently a research project has been established on the icy world in the system’s 8th orbit. Several teams of scientists have conjectured this world could be subject to planet forming, and be able to maintain the higher temperatures required for human (and related) lifeforms. Still in the very early stages, it will likely be years before any such efforts at planet forming are undertaken.
