Wei Xiu is a very important industrial world. Known for its excellence in metallurgy and construction, its expertise is highly sought after in other systems when specialized knowledge and materials are needed for critical (or complicated/dangerous) construction projects are undertaken. The knowledge of its engineers is unsurpassed, and graduates of its specialized engineering colleges are highly desired.
Wei Xiu’s habitats reflect this expertise. Living areas are well-designed, and well maintained; dwellings are easy to modify as needed, and unsurpassed for safety: the last recorded accident caused by engineering issues or neglect was well over a century ago. Industrial accidents are also rare; given the nature of many industrial operations, accidents and incidents are more likely. Even so, it has been almost a decade since the last industrial accident caused by poor engineering or neglect. The entire society is rightly proud of these accomplishments, and its reputation.
Only a few other worlds in the Wei Xiu system have been inhabited or exploited. Given the rather abundant resources in the system there has been little need. However, as the normal sources are beginning to dwindle, there has been an increased effort to survey the system once again, in anticipation of future needs. There have also been discussions regarding planet forming worlds for future expansion. However, few worlds meet the necessary criteria for consideration. Of these, one is being surveyed, but that world is so far away from the primary star it receives little warm and energy. The project may soon be abandoned, though those already living there (Orbit #9; engineers, workers, and their families) have announced their intention to remain if/when the project ends.
