Sh’Nyri is an important world. Located on an uninhabitable planet, it was settled for the usual reasons such worlds are settled: resources. The original settlers also arrived with broken down starships, so they seemed to have little choice at the time. Even so, this decision has worked out well for them. Sh’Nyri is well known in the region for its efficient chemical production. Most of its output isn’t unique, but the industry’s efficiency keeps costs down, making it less expensive for nearby industrial worlds to import needed chemicals from Sh’Nyri.
Sh’Nyri’s starport has recently been upgraded to facilitate maintenance on its fleet of chemical tankers. So far this has worked out well for the system. Local merchants have taken note of the yard’s timeliness and efficiency when performing maintenance, repairs, and the occasional overhaul, and business is booming at the port. There is talk of improving the yard further, venturing into actual starship construction, though there has been no official statements from the government or yard officials.
All three planetoid belts in the system are productive, and behind mined and surveyed. In particular, the belt in the near companion star system (orbit #10) has been extensively settled, and has declared its independence from the system’s main government. Sh’Nyri’s government seems to be “ok” with this, as the former mining colony is heavily reliant on the main world for major supplies, in particular food and luxury goods. There has been a noted increase in traffic from nearby systems, however, and there is growing concern in the government the former colony will gain true independence – with some unwanted outside help. What, if any, steps the government takes to combat this remains unknown.
