System of the Day #295 – Arbish

Arbish is a backwater world. The main settlements, such as they are, are located within a hundred kilometers of what passes for Arbish’s starport, an area of relatively flat bedrock near the cold terminus of the world’s tidal zone near the center of the world’s main continent. The region around the port is one of few on Arbish which isn’t subject to higher levels of radiation (Arbish does have a magnetic field, but it is weak, and cannot prevent some radiation from reaching the surface) and storms. Though the atmosphere is thin, the present impurities help the weather patterns generate rather powerful electrical storms.
These storms have greatly affected the society’s development of advanced technology, and have also persistently damaged infrastructure. There are few large buildings, and no tall ones. Construction is mainly stone, to reduce the risk of electrical strikes. There are a host of other adaptations to the situation, of course, making life here possible, if risky.
Arbish is self-supporting; there is no need for imports to make the settlement viable. As the residents produce few products desired by other nearby societies, this self sufficiency is a good thing. Due to this lack of product, few ships call to Arbish, with perhaps one ship arriving each standard month on average.
NOTE: These systems, as generated, are generic. Referees will need to modify the system and descriptions to fit their campaign needs.
