An important world, Bergelmir has wonderful living conditions for humans. Located in a system with ample resources, Bergelmir never struggled for raw materials, and was once noted (many centuries ago) as a rich agricultural world. As its population increased, Bergelmir has become less noted for its agriculture (though it is still known across the region for its wines), and more for its various commercial output. The society has managed to keep much of the world’s ecology intact (or at least much of it has been preserved/conserved), and there is still exist many popular tourist attractions. It’s mountainous scenery and waterfalls are of note, and its wide expanse of carefully maintained preserved deserts and grasslands are a sight to behold.
Once regular space travel was reestablished, the government was quick to ensure its control over the system’s wide ranging planetoid belts. A number of  “squatters” (miners from nearby world corporations posing as ‘independents’) were forcibly ejected from the system, causing a number of diplomatic incidents. These were smoothed over quickly, however, as the squatters were violating a number of laws, and there were no long term diplomatic problems.
The system’s largest planetoid belt, in orbit #7, has become a sizeable extension of the society, with nearly 82 million inhabitants. There is significant traffic between these locations, and constant local Navy patrols to ensure the safety of all traffic. It has been decades since the last reported pirate attack occurred in the system, and a decade before that since the last successful one.
