An unimportant world, most merchant traffic bypasses Arjan completely. The world’s low population almost ensures this world’s beautiful landscape is kept pristine and untouched, and the world’s scenery is being noticed by the tourist industry.
The government of Arjan does not want the increased attention, nor the traffic it will surely bring; the world’s government was set up by its colonizers to maintain the world’s beauty and pristine condition, in order to preserve the ecology’s lifeforms. This effort has been very successful. However the potential increase in tourist traffic will surely (in the government’s and environmentalists’ viewpoints) damage the ecology, destroying everything they have worked so hard for.
The regional tourist industries are beginning to put pressure on the government to “open it up”, as demand for access is growing on nearby worlds. A number of local businesses are in favor of limited access to offworlders, as the credits they will spend are needed for local growth, and they, too, are beginning to apply pressure. What will happen on Arjan remains to be seen. Will the government be able to maintain Arjan’s pristine setting? Or will tour directors (and local businesses) force access for tourists, bringing potential damage to the environment.
