Anat III (usually just called Anat) is a minor world. When settled, early disagreements between the colonists’ three distinct social groupings led to the establishment of three separate governments. To this day, centuries later, there is still no unified government, and likely never will be. Each society does its own thing, runs its own affairs, and tends to ignore the other governments completely. Although the groups/governments disagree on almost every aspect of government, there have been no recorded instances of hostilities between them; there are apparently no efforts to conquer or dominate the other groups, at Anat was settled peacefully, and each would like it to remain peaceful.
Each of the societies is located in separate “basins”, valleys located between high mountain ranges on Anat’s surface, with each basin being a minimum of 1000 km apart. There are grav rail lines connecting the groups, though they are used only infrequently, partly due to there being no need, and partly due to use of small craft.
Several other societies have been established in the system over the years. These are primarily located in the system’s planetoid belts, and were formed by various groups of miners, mining companies, and war refugees from other systems. These other societies tend to get along with the governments of Anat, though with varying degrees of actual friendliness. As with the three governments on Anat, there appears to be no actual hostilities between these governments, and the system is considered a very peaceful, if divided, one.
