Hemera has only recently been settled. An unimportant world, the system was believed to have few, if any resources, and not worth exploiting. The planet’s atmospheric taint is particularly ruinous to human lifeforms, making settlement problematic, at best.
However, a recent discovery of a major mineral deposit in one of the system’s two planetoid belts led to a resurvey of the system. This revealed the true extent of the system’s wealth, and a colonization and mining effort was quickly established.
As expected, the colony is running into problems with the atmospheric taint, a particularly nasty airborne virus. Efforts to keep the virus out of the sealed habitats have met with failure; even sealing individual buildings within the sealed habitats isn’t working. Colony leadership is bringing in expert consultants from nearby systems; it is hoped their specialized knowledge will be enough to keep the colony viable. Meanwhile, work continues in the planetoid belts, with some production beginning to come online.
