Beletseri VII (commonly referred to as simply Beletseri, or Seri) is an example of what full scale war will do to a system. The system was once made up of dozens of separate governments, most with conflicting viewpoints on a variety of the usual topics: trade, culture, religion, and the like.  While there had been frequent conflicts in the system throughout its history, there had never been a system-wide conflict, until a few years ago.
No one really knows what set this conflict in motion, and scholars will be arguing the point for decades. What is known is the level of devastation it wreaked on the entire system. Much of the infrastructure was damaged or outright destroyed. The system’s technology base was decimated, dropping the economic and industrial capabilities of every society in the system. Millions died.
Every planetary body in the system was inhabited in some form before the war, with the sole exception of the distant frozen planet in orbit 12. Sadly, this is no longer the case. A number of worlds’ habitats or installations were wiped out., notably on the three inner planets (orbits 0, 1, and 2). The society on the fourth planet (orbit 3)  had its main port destroyed; fortunately there were/are secondary ports, which allowed them to maintain necessary supply chains. The fifth planet’s facilities (orbit 5; a mining operation with a once sizeable population) were almost completely wiped out; a handful of survivors remain. The sixth planet (orbit 6) was a smaller mining facility, which was wiped out in the early stages of the conflict. Due to the nature of that world’s atmosphere, no one has yet returned; there are rumors of survivors in the ruins, though no one has been able to check up to this point. The small societies on the gas giant’s moons (orbit 8) also suffered heavy damage and casualties.
Beletseri VII itself once had nearly 30 governments. Almost two-thirds of these have been conquered, absorbed, or wiped out. Only 10 governments/societies remain to hammer out a peace agreement, along with those of the other worlds in system. Its once abundant infrastructure has been reduced to a shell of its former capabilities.
What will occur in the system’s near future remains to be determined. There are serious talks of a permanent peace settlement, and even of a potential unified system government. Unfortunately, everyone involved is preoccupied with searching for survivors, repairing the damage, and making the society function once again. It may be months before the peace talks can begin in earnest.
