Unimportant for the most part, the Vaile system has made a name for itself for its abundant mineral resources. The system’s resources are, for the most part, readily accessible, at least in certain locations, and a number of mining firms are exploiting the easy access to wealth. The system sees significant ship traffic, and a large number of ore carriers arrive in the system weekly.
To support this the starport has recently been improved, adding major repair and upgrade facilities. Previously, all such work had to be conducted at great expense in nearby systems. It is projected this investment will pay itself off within a decade. Pirate incursions within the last few years has also led to the creation of a local patrol. Based at the starport, with major outposts in the system’s belts, the patrol’s new SDB fleet (built out of system with higher technology) is beginning to make a significant impact on recent pirate attacks.
The startown of Vaire is noted for its wild excesses. Miners lead a hard life, and when they get vacation time, they let off steam… This occurs in most systems around human space, of course, but the entertainments to be had here are known far and wide for their boisterous nature. To combat recent excesses the government has increased restrictions on weapons outside of the port, as well as fines for violations. So far this has had little apparent impact on the miners’ fun…
